"Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light" Reception
The Autry proudly presents the world premiere of Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light by musician, poet, songwriter, and playwright Joy Harjo (Mvskoke). A reception and entertainment will proceed what has been called an "allegorical work of tremendous power". 'Wings' demonstrates how theater and art can bring life full circle. Two-Spirit Pageant
Landa Lakes and the Brush Arbor Gurlz (A Native Drag Troup) will host a prevention show and drag pageant focused on prevention methods and performance. NNHAAD Mini Powwow
There will be a mini powwow at the International Friendship House. Join them as they dance in their traditional regalia in an effort to promote HIV/AIDS awereness. Food and refreshments will be served from 6pm to 7pm when grand entry starts. This event will be sponsored by Alameda County, Office of AIDS Administration, Intertribal Friendship House, and Native American Health Center & Circle of Healing. NNHAAD Sunrise Ceremony
The sunrise ceremony at California State Capitol Building will begin at 6 am and conclude at 7:30 am. Free rapid HIV testing will be offered at the Sacramento Native American Health Center, Inc. There will also be guest speakers on the topic of HIV/AIDS, educational prevention videos playing, free information, health screenings and cultural events presented througout the day. In recognition of NNHAAD, Native American AIDS Project presents the 3rd Annual Taking Care of the Tribe Powwow. The powwow will have MC: Tom Phillips, head guard: Earl Neconie, headwoman: Delores Le Desma, headman: Donnie Le Desma, head judge: Kaylene Kimple, whip man: Eric Kimple, host northern drum: Swift Cloud, host southern drum: Rocking Horse and honorary drums: All Nations & The NAAP Singers.
