Capacity Building Assistance

Capacity building is a key strategy for the promotion and sustainability of HIV prevention programs. In the context of the work that NNAAPC performs, capacity building can be defined as the skills, infrastructure, and resources of organizations that are necessary to develop and maintain effective HIV prevention strategies. The term “capacity building assistance” or “CBA” refers to the provision of information, technical assistance, training, and technology transfer services for organizations to improve the delivery and effectiveness of HIV prevention services.

NNAAPC provides capacity building assistance to several types of organizations:

  • Community-based organizations (CBO’s) that receive funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • CBO’s that receive funding through their local or state health department.
  • State and local health departments.
  • Native organizations that are funded by sources other than the CDC, such as:
    • Indian Health Service facilities.
    • Urban Indian health clinics.
    • Tribal government entities or consortia.
    • Alaska Native regional health corporations.
    • Native Hawaiian health systems/organizations.
    • Organizations, institutions, universities, and federal bodies or workgroups that provide or are interested in providing HIV prevention services to Native individuals and/or communities.
