Social Marketing Capacity Building
Capacity building is a key strategy for the promotion and sustainability of HIV prevention programs. In the context of the work that NNAAPC performs, capacity building can be defined as the skills, infrastructure, and resources of organizations that are necessary to develop and maintain effective HIV prevention strategies. The term “capacity building assistance” or “CBA” refers to the provision of information, technical assistance, training, and technology transfer services for organizations to improve the delivery and effectiveness of HIV prevention services.
NNAAPC is currently funded to provided capacity building in the following areas:
- Social Marketing – NNAAPC can help Native or Native-serving organizations to develop a social marketing strategy to promote the utilization of HIV services – whether it is the assessment, design, dissemination or evaluation stage.
- National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – NNAAPC can provide technical assistance in the planning of community events, as well as the creation of local materials to support NNHAAD
- Syringe Service Programs – NNAAPC can provide basic education and training on how these program benefit the community and CBA on the development of syringe service programs and coalitions at the local level
- Gender Specific Programming – NNAAPC can provide limited technical assistance on the development of gender-specific programming for women
NNAAPC can provide CBA to several types of organizations:
- Community-based organizations (CBO’s)
- Native, tribal, state and local health departments or entities
- Urban/IHS/Tribal health clinics
- Tribal colleges
- Government agencies and departments
- Organizations, institutions, universities, and federal bodies or workgroups that provide or are interested in providing HIV prevention services to Native individuals and/or communities
