Goal of Module 3:
To help you identify how and why HIV/AIDS spreads in your Native community in order to strengthen your intervention.

Epidemiology is the study of the ways in which a disease progresses through a population. In order to plan and carry out an effective intervention, you must understand how and why people in your community become infected with and spread HIV.

  1. Contact your local or state health department and ask for the person(s) responsible for epidemiology. Find out how to contact the HIV Prevention Community Planning Group in your community. The HIV Prevention Community Planning Group conducts a needs assessment and prepares an HIV Prevention Plan specific to your locale. This document has a lot of information already gleaned from local source and will tell you a lot.
